Apprenticeship Scheme

Brief Description:

The Scheme of Apprenticeship Training provides opportunities for practical training to graduate engineers, diploma holders (Technicians) and 10+2 Vocational pass outs in about 10,000 industrial establishments/ organizations as per the policies and guidelines laid down by the Central Apprenticeship Council ( CAC). The basic objective of the Scheme is to fulfill/match, any gap, in so far practical/hands on experience of fresh Graduate Engineers, Diploma holders and 10+2. Vocational pass-outs and also to enhance their suitability in job absorption as per the needs of the Industry. The Nation Scheme of Aprenticeship Training is implemented through four Regional Boards of Apprenticeship/practical (BOATs/BOPT)at Mumbai, Kanpur, Chennai & Kolkata. The four Regional BOATs/BOPT, which are fully funded autonomous  organizations of MHRD, have been entrusted with the responsibility to implement the scheme of  Apprenticeship Training under Apprentices Act, 1961 as amended from time to time in their  respective regions. The period of Apprenticeship Training under the act is one year.

Nature of Assistance:

The apprentices are paid monthly stipend which is shared between the Central Government and the Employer on 50:50 basis. The existing rates of stipends as effective from 19th December, 2014 for Engineering Graduate, Technicians and 10+2 Vocational pass-outs are Rs. 4984/-, Rs.3541/-, and Rs. 2758/- per month respectively as approved in March, 2011. The full stipend is paid by the industrial establishments/organizations to the apprentices undergoing Apprenticeship Training at the first instance and later on they claim 50% reimbursement from Central Government through respective BOATs/BoPT.

Who can apply?

Graduate Apprentice

  1. A Degree in Engineering/Technology awarded by a statutory University or by an Institution empowered to award such Degree by an Act of parliament.
  2. An examination of professional bodies recognized by central Government as equivalent to Degree
  3. A Sandwich Course student who is undergoing training as per the curriculum in order that he may hold a Degree in Engineering/Technology as mentioned (1) above

Technician Apprentice

A Diploma in Engineering/Technology awarded by a state council on Board of Technical Education established by a State Government or by an University or by an institute recognized by the State Government or Central Government as equivalent.

Technician (Vocational) Apprentice

A Higher secondary + 2 Vocational Certificate holder having studied and passed under the vocational stream in the designated subject fields.

Vocationalization of School Education

Brief Description:

The Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Vocationalisation of Secondary Education provides for diversification of educational opportunities so as to enhance individual employability, reduce the mismatch between demand and supply of skilled manpower and provides an alternative for those pursuing higher education. The Scheme provides for financial assistance to the States to set up administrative structure, area vocational surveys, preparation of curriculum, text book, work book curriculum guides, training manual, teacher training programme, strengthening technical support system for research and development, training and evaluation etc. it also provides financial assistance to NGOs and voluntary organizations towards implementation of specific innovative projects for conducting short-term courses.

Scheme of Community Development Through Polytechnics

Brief Description:

Ministry of Human Resource Development through the Department of Higher Education launched a new Scheme of Community Development through Polytechnics (CDTP), in the year 2009, under coordinated action for skill development, with the aim of providing non formal, short term, employment oriented skill development programmes, to various sections of the community, particularly the rural, unorganized & disadvantaged sections of the society, by harnessing the Technological Infrastructure available with Polytechnics. Under the CDTP Scheme, the selected Polytechnics are provided financial assistance by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, to run short duration non-formal skill development courses. A variety of employment-oriented courses are envisaged to be offered under the scheme depending on local demands and needs. These courses will be offered by the Polytechnics in its premises, as well as through extension centres, to be set up in nearby locations, from where, these courses can be offered to the local community.

Nature of Assistance:

As per the scheme's norms, annual recurring grants-in-aid upto a maximum of Rs 17.00 lakh and a one time non-recurring grants-in-aid of Rs 20.00 lakh (13.00 Lakh for old Community Polytechnics) is provided to the selected AICTE approved Diploma Level Institutions, to implement the Scheme. No fees are charged from the trainees under this Scheme. Technical support services are extended to the local community for which the polytechnics would demonstrate, adapt and aid the assimilation of new technologies useful for the economic activities of the local community and provide technical support for their adoption.

Community members around the polytechnic. There is no restriction of age and qualification.
